Everything You Need to Know About Waxing

Waxing is a great option to remove unwanted body hair. You can wax just about any part of your body, from your eyebrows to your legs. While waxing is a great option for body hair removal, you should know some things beforehand.

Stop using all retinol, retinoids, tretinoin, and vitamin A. While these products are amazing at treating many skin conditions, it is super important to stop using them because they could cause severe redness and irritation. These products can make the skin more sensitive, which can also cause your skin to tear easily during your waxing session.

Stop shaving. You only remove the hair at the skin’s surface when you shave. When you wax, you remove the entire hair follicle and its root. When you find yourself shaving, you can, in fact, make the hair grow faster and thicker instead of holding out until your next waxing appointment. Over time, you may find your hair growing finer from waxing. Once you shave, this whole process begins again at your next waxing appointment. You also are opening up the potential for cutting the area with a razor and increasing your odds of getting ingrown hairs.

Exfoliate before and after. Exfoliating the treatment area before and after your service is key to preventing ingrown hairs. Using a provider-approved exfoliator before and after your appointment will prevent ingrown hairs and remove dead skin cells from the area. After all we do not want those pesky bumps!

Don’t forget your SPF. Your skin is very sensitive after a wax. If you plan on going outside after your appointment, it is best to apply SPF to avoid redness and irritation on the freshly waxed area.

Put down the at-home kit. While it seems convenient to try and do it yourself at home, it is best to leave it to the professionals.
